Waidner-Spahr Library

Emergency Information: Home

Welcome

Welcome to the Waidner-Spahr Library Emergency Information Guide. These resources were compiled for Dickinson College faculty, staff, and students to support the campus in preparing and responding to emergencies both on and off campus.

For information about evacuating the library, go the the Library Evacuation page.

For information about taking shelter inside the library, go to the Library Shelter page.

Things to remember:

  • Do your best to remain calm and follow instructions issued by emergency personnel.
  • Familiarize yourself with all possible exits from your location. For the Library, these are marked on our Emergency Map. Some exits are through offices, in the stairwells, or in corners of the quiet side, so you may not have noticed all of them. Some exits may be locked after 5 p.m. and during weekends; this is noted on the map.
  • Evacuate the building immediately when an alarm is activated.
  • Do not use elevators during a fire emergency. If stuck in an elevator, do not attempt to force open the doors; rather use the alarm inside the elevator or call the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at (717) 245-1111. If you cannot use stairs, move to the stairwell and call DPS or wait for assistance.
  • There is an automated external defibrillator (AED) next to the circulation desk for cardiac emergencies.
