Overview
Through works of art, photographs and exhibits, the Waidner-Spahr Library enhances the cultural and academic life of the community by promoting scholarship and creative endeavors on campus. Artwork, photos and exhibits displayed in public areas of the library should enrich the learning experience and reflect the Dickinson community and should always include respect for the dignity of others.
Our library currently has a variety of artistic and cultural works on display. The artwork in the building has been acquired through temporary loans from campus departments, permanent loans from the Trout Gallery, permanent donations from the artist or purchases by the library. The Library Spaces Committee has created a log of existing artwork in the library. The log identifies location of items, artist (if known), and perceived retention commitments.
As part of ongoing assessment to refresh library spaces and maintain a contemporary aesthetic, the library manages the acquisition, relocation, and deaccession of all art pieces displayed in the library’s public spaces. Factors that contribute to the review of artwork to be added, relocated or deaccessioned include location, impact, changes in library spaces, and relevance to the Dickinson community.
The committee has identified spaces throughout the building to display works of art. The spaces are classified into different display periods.
Please review the "Exhibit Spaces" table found below.
The views expressed in the artwork displayed in the Waidner-Spahr Library are those of the artists and not necessarily those of the library or its staff.
