Library Services Updates: Spring 2024: General Information

Print Collection Access Restrictions

In early March 2024 mold was found on some books and shelving in the "quiet zone" on the upper level of the library.  That section of the library is now closed and the books in that area are not available for use while professional remediation is being conducted. See below for alternative access options. Updates will be posted here as they become available.

The upper level "quiet zone" (including restrooms and the East Asian room) are closed while mold remediation is being completed.

Books that are not available:

  • Most books with call numbers beginning with G through PR
    • New or recently returned books not affected by the mold will be available on shelves elsewhere in the library. Please see the circulation desk for assistance.
    • Books in the PS-Z ranges on the library upper level (above the Biblio) remain accessible and available for checkout.
  • Most oversize books
    • New or recently returned books not affected by the mold will be available on shelves elsewhere in the library. Please see the circulation desk for assistance.
  • Most East Asian Room books
    • New or recently returned books not affected by the mold will be available on shelves elsewhere in the library. Please see the circulation desk for assistance.

Alternative Access Options

If a book you need is currently unavailable, consider these alternative options:

  • NOTE: Some books in the G-PR range not affected by the mold will be available on shelving elsewhere in the library.
  • Check JumpStart to see if we have an ebook version of the book you need.
  • If it is an older book, check to see if an open access version is available on HathiTrust or the open web.
  • Submit an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request via EZborrow (for a whole book), or ILLiad (for a book chapter or books not found in the EZBorrow catalog).
    • If you only need a chapter, rather than a whole book, the process will likely be faster, since chapters can usually be delivered to you electronically
  • Seek out alternative resources.  A librarian can help with this.  Visit our Ask a Librarian page for various ways to get assistance, or send an email to ask@dickinson.libanswers.com.
