What is the Waidner-Spahr Library Research Prize for Sophomores or Juniors?

The Waidner-Spahr Library Research Prize for Sophomores or Juniors

The staff of the Waidner-Spahr Library is proud to announce the second annual Waidner-Spahr Library Research Prize for Sophomores or Juniors, designed to recognize and reward current sophomores or juniors who produce exceptional research projects during their sophomore or junior years.

This prize comes with a certificate and a $100 award.  In addition, the prize will be noted on the winner’s transcript.

The awards committee will consider projects that effectively use properly cited research material to examine an engaging question.  The submitted work should clearly demonstrate that the author independently selected appropriate research material, analyzed it, and used it effectively to advance an idea.  All submissions will be assessed against the awards rubric

Eligible research projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Research papers of any length
  • Multimedia projects
  • Lab reports
  • Posters
  • Field research studies

For consideration, students may submit their own work or have their work nominated by a professor or peer. The work must have been produced when the student was a sophomore or a junior, and the student must currently be a sophomore or junior.

Projects may be submitted using the form to the left.

The winning student will be asked to briefly discuss their work at an award ceremony.

If you have any questions about the submission form or the award itself, please email

The Waidner-Spahr Library Research Prize for Sophomores and Juniors was created in 2019 when the library won the American Library Association’s (ALA) Library Instruction Roundtable (LIRT) Innovation in Instruction Award.  This prize is funded by the award money from ALA and the Friends of the Library fund of Dickinson College.
