Citation Searching: Citation Search on Scopus

Citation Search on Scopus

On the Scopus home page, you will see several options for performing a document search. Select your search method (ex: article title, abstract, keyword).  Enter the title or keywords from the title for the article which you would like to target with your citation search.

Once you complete your search you will see a list of articles that match the criteria of your search.  If you were not specific enough in your initial search, you may need to narrow your terms.

From there you can access cited articles in one of two ways.  You can either see all articles that cite your article by click on the number in the "Cited by" column.  Or you can select your article and choose "View Citation Overview."

The Citation Overview allows a range of different options.  Most notably you can narrow the date range of citations as well as view only citations for a particular year.  You can either click on the number for the year you wish to look, or clock on the number under "Total" to view the citations.

If you wish to do a citation search by Author, you can select the Author option on the Scopus home page.  You must enter at least the last name to perform an author search.

Once you complete your search you will see a list of articles that match the criteria of your search.  If you were not specific enough in your initial search, you may need to include the author's first name.

After you locate the author you are searching for, you will need to click the number under the documents column.   Depending on how prolific the author you are researching is, you may need to narrow further.  You can do that by searching within your results.
